A virtual reality re-creation of the controversial winning entry of the 1960 FDR Memorial Competition, which was never realized.
My late father, Norman Hoberman, was the sculptor for the winning entry of the 1960 F.D.R. Memorial competition, which was sadly never realized. A brilliant but controversial modernist masterpiece, the design was dubbed ‘Instant Stonehenge’ in the popular press, and was ultimately left unbuilt, brought down by the opposition of Roosevelt’s descendants. My project is to re-create the memorial as a virtual reality experience, so that it can finally be experienced immersively at scale.
The unrealized design for the FDR Memorial would have transformed mid-20th century Washington DC, bringing it fully into the modern era. A VR recreation could give an inkling of the optimism and grandeur it embodied, qualities in short supply today.

Season totals as displayed on the platform's public accounting — not a statement of amounts paid out. V2 = Venus sales + Venus extras. The original page also broke each season down by fund drive and showed an Available (unclaimed) balance; that level of detail survives only on the preserved snapshots.
