“The Quilt VR” is an interactive VR experience that allows you to explore the famous AIDS Quilt in a new, immersive way.
queer
We are digitizing the AIDS Memorial Quilt, a 50-ton tapestry of over 100,000 lives lost to AIDS, in a 3D world that will allow you to experience it in its entirety, for the first time in over 30 years.
It will create a powerful, immersive experience, fostering empathy and understanding around the AIDS crisis, once demonized as a 'gay plague'. It will promote awareness, inspire action, and preserve a vital piece of queer history.
We have partnered with the National AIDS Memorial and got our lead volumetric video actor, Cleve Jones, on board. We have also built a prototype in Unreal Engine, and are waiting on funding to build the full experience.
My queer VR experiences have won major awards, including the Special Jury Prize at SXSW. As a young queer XR developer who is passionate about queer history, I have the expertise and the personal connection to make this piece beautifully.
No displayed figures preserved for this project.
Season totals as displayed on the platform's public accounting — not a statement of amounts paid out. V2 = Venus sales + Venus extras. The original page also broke each season down by fund drive and showed an Available (unclaimed) balance; that level of detail survives only on the preserved snapshots.
