WITNESS is a multidisciplinary work that blends dance & circus to explore America's racial landscape through time.
arts-mediamusic-performance
Using a team of mostly Black collaborators, I’m making a three-part multidisciplinary contemporary dance/circus work at the intersection of art and activism to explore America's racial landscape, challenge racial biases, & imagine a liberated future.
At a time when stating Black Lives Matter is controversial, WITNESS empowers Blacks and sometimes, quite literally, lets us fly. With WITNESS, I’m creating a pedagogy that blends dance and contemporary circus with the DNA of Black bodies at its core.
Having raised 40% of our budget, WITNESS has garnered the attention and support of many notable institutions from around the country including: BAM, Chelsea Factory, New Victory Theater, The Guggenheim, Playhouse Square, and The Apollo.
I’m a queer Black immigrant known for making groundbreaking and deeply impactful dance works. I’m a Guggenheim Fellow who was named one of 2023’s 6 to watch by American Theater Magazine & a current resident artist for both BAM and Chelsea Factory.

Season totals as displayed on the platform's public accounting — not a statement of amounts paid out. V2 = Venus sales + Venus extras. The original page also broke each season down by fund drive and showed an Available (unclaimed) balance; that level of detail survives only on the preserved snapshots.
