About

An innovative and visceral immersive digital 3D experience to provide a rarely seen view into the lives, stories, and struggles that make up the densest area in Mumbai, India (where a million people occupy a square mile), which is to be demolished.

Impact

Creating a 3D model of Dharavi and tracking its residents’ futures is vital to the historical record, providing a one-of-a-kind perspective to provide scale and structure to the disparate layers and overlapping lives within an endangered community.

Progress

Beyond the diverse team I’ve assembled, including local stakeholders, I’ve worked to harness innovative 3D technology for storytelling, capturing challenging subjects with forensic accuracy, which has gained the support of Nat Geo to my mission.

Team

For over fifteen years, I’ve worked as a journalist for the New York Times, CNN and other outlets, utilizing emerging technology from VR, AR, drones, photogrammetry and LiDAR to pave the future of immersive storytelling.

Funding

No displayed figures preserved for this project.

Season totals as displayed on the platform's public accounting — not a statement of amounts paid out. V2 = Venus sales + Venus extras. The original page also broke each season down by fund drive and showed an Available (unclaimed) balance; that level of detail survives only on the preserved snapshots.
