About

I am making a documentary film about an eccentric British woman who is successfully impacting Japanese culture through her skill, intelligence, and tenacity.

Impact

Modern Japanese have to a large extent lost interest in their own heritage. Kimono is at the heart of what it means to be Japanese. They are timeless. They last. Kimono has the power to transform lives and revitalize communities in Japan.

Progress

I made a short documentary about Sheila Cliffe that won an award at a fashion film festival in San Diego. I have her cooperation, I have a crew, I speak Japanese, and I know Tokyo well having lived there for over 25 years.

Team

I met the kimono expert 20 years ago. I know how to navigate the complexities of Japanese culture. I have a strong grasp of Japanese history and aesthetics. A film I produced in Tokyo, BICYCLE, won accolades at Venice International Film Festival.

Funding

No displayed figures preserved for this project.

Season totals as displayed on the platform's public accounting — not a statement of amounts paid out. V2 = Venus sales + Venus extras. The original page also broke each season down by fund drive and showed an Available (unclaimed) balance; that level of detail survives only on the preserved snapshots.
