Storing NFTs in the DNA of real plants, to create the first ever plant-based NFT.
ai-technologyarts-mediaopen-infrastructurescience-research
I'm creating Non-Fungible Plants (NFPs). NFPs are real plants that contain digital data (like NFTs) in their DNA. This experimental art-science project will lead to the creation of the first ever (literally) plant-based NFTs.
Storing digital data in plants is a radical idea to transform how we think about data and tech. This project shows how we could work with nature as technology, create data infrastructure with plants that absorb CO2, and help regenerate ecosystems.
We've won awards including Science Breakthrough of the Year 2022, been featured by Netflix, and exhibited globally. For NFPs we've grown a vibrant community, developed a digital garden website, and created beautiful artworks to fund lab production.
I’m an award-winning designer and technologist who's been experimenting with plant-based data storage since 2017. I do this to tell stories that inspire hope and build regenerative tech that promote a new symbiosis between human beings and nature.
No displayed figures preserved for this project.
Season totals as displayed on the platform's public accounting — not a statement of amounts paid out. V2 = Venus sales + Venus extras. The original page also broke each season down by fund drive and showed an Available (unclaimed) balance; that level of detail survives only on the preserved snapshots.
