About
We are making sample compressed bio-composite materials to replace plastics. The materials come from two of the most abundant polymers in the world: cellulose and chitin (plants and bug exoskeletons/fungi).
Impact
This builds on the breakthrough work of the past 5 years of reduced lignin ultra hard woody materials. We aim to compound reduced lignin wood with chitin, and possibly calcium carbonate.
Progress
Hardened wood achieved by reducing ligning, next up is compounding with chitin to find the correct balances for hardness, toughness, and durability.
Team
I am a serial entrepreneur having founded 5 businesses. My previous startup, Blue Marble Biomaterials is a former ARPA-E recipient, and built one of the world's first biological foundries (PCAST 2010).
