Lattice Fund for Living Worlds

Seeking artists and creative technologists who turn physical movement into living virtual worlds using sensors, open-source tools, and a regenerative spirit.

The Lattice Fund for Living Worlds supports interactive art that listens to the physical world. Using simple sensors, projects translate movement, footsteps across a room, wind through leaves, a crowd at a festival, into data that grows evolving virtual worlds. The fund grew out of Lattice, an open-source framework built by young South African developers from Younglings Africa, whose first installation let an audience unknowingly grow a digital ecosystem just by moving through the space. We champion projects that close the loop between the world you grow and the ground it came from: regeneration, recycling, habitat, community.

Eligibility

We support digital artists, creative technologists, and makers building at the edge of interactive tech art, from music festivals to public spaces to wilderness installations.
To qualify for this fund, projects must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Sensor-driven: The project captures events from the physical world through sensors or comparable physical inputs. Movement is the raw material.
- World-growing: Captured events generate or evolve a virtual world, ecosystem, or living digital artwork. We do not fund static visualizations.
- Open-source: A meaningful part of the project is released open source. Projects built on the Lattice framework (lattice-hub, lattice-protocol, lattice-nodes) are preferred and will receive hands-on support, including help sourcing sensor hardware, but any stack qualifies.
- Regenerative thread: The project weaves in a social or environmental give-back: ecological regeneration, recycling, community benefit, or education.
