Backing villages that hold land in common, restore ecosystems by hand, and pioneer new ways of governing together.
A new kind of village is taking root. Communities of all sizes are holding land in common, restoring soils and water cycles with their own hands, and testing new forms of governance built on open tools. The OASA Village Fund backs these solarpunk settlements: places that treat land as a living commons rather than a speculative asset. The model is already working at Traditional Dream Factory in Portugal, the network's first village, where a community stewards shared land through a legal token structure. This fall, we are building a cohort of 10 villages that align in values with OASA and are willing to try our tools and grow together. Each one a working experiment in regeneration, self-governance, and shared ownership, and each one proof that a regenerative future is buildable now. The fund also grows from within: when villages use Closer for bookings, a 4% fee on commercial transactions goes to developing the platform, and 1% is put back into this fund to grow and support the network.
We are looking for villages of all sizes that are willing to experiment with decentralised governance and take a hands-on approach to land restoration.
To qualify for this fund, projects should:
- Steward physical land, ideally held under a commons structure (a trust, non-profit, or similar).
- Have an active community of 7+ people participating in the village's evolution through governance and stewardship.
- Run an instance of Closer.earth software to experiment with novel ways of organising.
- Embody the OASA Principles: healthy soils, restored local water cycles, thriving biodiversity, safeguarded natural habitats, and carbon sequestered through natural solutions.
- Ideally, be willing to experiment with tokenised participation.
