Open Health Fund

A greenhouse, not a gate: funding the edge of health innovation that fits no traditional bucket.

The most interesting health work often happens at the edges: biohackers building their own diagnostics, patient communities developing solutions for their own conditions, open-source developers creating health data platforms, engineers building decentralized AI for medical imaging. These projects are too healthcare for infrastructure funds, too applied for academic grants, too early for venture capital. Open Health Fund is a greenhouse for them: nurturing early-stage health projects until they can stand on their own, whether that means spinning out as a startup, entering clinical practice, or becoming permanent open infrastructure.

Eligibility

To qualify for this fund, projects must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Projects must name a clear problem in healthcare they are trying to solve.
- Show a working prototype, active development, or a credible plan of action.
- Demonstrate a realistic understanding of their users, patients, or community context.
- Handle privacy, ethics, and data security thoughtfully.
- Show a credible path to impact: open access, commercial deployment, community adoption, or something in between.
- Edge projects are the point: open-source labs, patient-led initiatives, biohackers building diagnostic tools, and community health projects that do not fit traditional buckets.
- Not eligible: projects primarily focused on psychedelic research or therapies. A meaningful space, but one that needs dedicated expertise and a container this fund cannot provide.
