About
We're making an AR experience and "treasure hunt" app to find and map cell towers disguised as trees in Johannesburg. Using 3D scans and sounds from the urban and natural worlds, we reveal the hidden network weaved within our city’s urban forest.
Impact
Photographing tree towers in app activates info about native biodiversity in the area. We aim to show urban citizens of Joburg are already participants in nature. Our app is an act of noticing the urban-natural world. Tech longs for nature, so do we.
Progress
Project impact and user jounrey development with award winning XR develper/storyteller Kyle Donald Marais and biologist Alex Jennings, a GIS expert researching the 'wood wide web' and an active participant in participatory, citizen science projects.
Team
I am an immersive director and image theorist working in XR to reveal the hidden infrastructures and emotional spirits buried in South Africa's geography. Mentored at the Venice Biennale Immersive Cinema College.
