Supporting the builders of open music infrastructure: tools, instruments, and models that put artists above platforms.
The tools that could make music fairer almost never get built: too unprofitable for venture capital, too strange for traditional grants, too honest about who the streaming economy actually serves. Open Music Fund exists for exactly those builders: open-source plugins and production tools, community radio and sonic commons, cassette-revival hardware, digital instruments, collaborative songwriting platforms, cooperative labels, and programmable royalties that distribute value transparently. The fund is led by Sol Siete and 0xGonzalo, co-founders of MúsicaW3, a Latin American community that has spent four years building toward a more sovereign music industry, creating the direct-to-fan platform Shine, hosting hundreds of educational broadcasts, and staging onchain exhibitions and festivals from Mexico to Thailand, guided by a conviction sharpened on the industry's periphery: technology only matters insofar as it puts artists above platforms and speculation.

We welcome toolmakers, instrument builders, archivists, cooperative founders, and infrastructure hackers anywhere in the world: open-source tools for creation, mastering, or distribution; archives, radios, and sonic commons; cooperatives, distributed labels, and collective catalog ownership; marketplaces and programmable royalties; and instruments, formats, and experiments that question what a music release even is, including accessible and adaptive instruments that widen who gets to make music at all. This fund backs infrastructure, not events.
To qualify for this fund, your project must embody four principles:
- Distributive justice: value reaches the creator, with transparent and verifiable rules
- Openness: you release code, data, formats, or knowledge rather than enclosing them
- Sovereignty: you reduce dependence on centralized platforms and intermediaries
- Replicability: others should be able to build on top of what you make
