About
City of Apparition is an augmented reality experience created with Taiwanese artist Shu-Kai Lin. Audiences explore real and digital spaces as they follow a man who, after losing his home, becomes a space traveler in search of answers and belonging.
Impact
The work explores 'un-homing,' a growing global violence severing bonds between people and place, immersing viewers in Shu-Kai Lin's story. Its innovative use of augmented reality sets a new standard for impactful and globally resonant storytelling.
Progress
We traveled to Taiwan, scanned the artist's studio, and developed a plan for a dynamic, multi-user AR/mixed reality system to bring the narrative to life. We’ve applied for three other grants. We received interest from PHI Centre and U of Texas.
Team
We are a group of diverse artists and technologists with 25 years of experience at the intersection of art and technology, led by Founder Wayne Ashley, whose commitment to intercultural collaboration drives the significance of this project.

Season totals as displayed on the platform's public accounting — not a statement of amounts paid out. V2 = Venus sales + Venus extras. The original page also broke each season down by fund drive and showed an Available (unclaimed) balance; that level of detail survives only on the preserved snapshots.
