Gonzo Sovereign Press Fund

Seeking fearless journalists, documentarians, and storytellers creating permanent records that power cannot erase.

The Gonzo Sovereign Press Fund supports independent journalists who immerse themselves in the story, challenge powerful institutions, and publish work that deserves to endure. We believe journalism should be owned by its creators—not platforms—and remain permanently accessible to the public. From investigative reporting and gonzo journalism to documentary films, podcasts, and narrative nonfiction, we champion storytellers creating lasting records that deepen public understanding and strengthen a free press.

Eligibility

We welcome investigative reporters, gonzo journalists, documentary filmmakers, podcasters, writers, photographers, researchers, and independent publishers committed to fearless, independent journalism. We are especially interested in creators producing original reporting that challenges conventional narratives while preserving their work through permanent, creator-owned publishing.
To qualify for this fund, projects must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Original Journalism: Projects should produce original investigative reporting, immersive journalism, documentary work, narrative nonfiction, or other factual reporting that serves the public interest.
- Fearless Reporting: We value creators willing to ask difficult questions, investigate overlooked stories, and pursue subjects that powerful individuals or institutions would prefer remain hidden.
- Authenticity: Gonzo journalism is welcome, but never fabricated. All reporting must remain grounded in factual events, honest observation, and responsible sourcing.
- Work in Progress: Applicants should demonstrate meaningful progress through a prototype, research, preview, published archive, working draft, or other evidence that the project is actively underway.
- Permanent Publishing: Supported projects should publish a written work of record through CTRL+X, preserving authorship, ownership, and long-term public access.
- Independent Editorial Control: Creators must retain editorial independence. We do not support projects where sponsors, platforms, governments, corporations, or subjects control editorial decisions.
- Archive Preservation: Existing bodies of journalistic work are welcome. We encourage creators to preserve investigative archives and important reporting through permanent, creator-owned publishing.
- Public Value: Projects should strengthen public understanding through rigorous reporting, compelling storytelling, historical documentation, or meaningful cultural insight.
- Sovereign Journalism: Above all, we seek journalists building a future where independent reporting remains creator-owned, censorship-resistant, permanently accessible, and impossible to quietly erase.
