About

We are making a citizen science project that listens to what the sea is saying through its algae. People will learn to identify seaweeds, measure water clarity, and share their findings to care for Cozumel’s coasts.

Impact

Our project empowers people to care for the ocean by using algae as indicators of water health. Together, we create open data, awareness, and action to protect Cozumel’s reefs and inspire coastal conservation worldwide.

Progress

As a biology professor at the Universidad Autónoma de Quintana Roo in Cozumel, I teach Phycology and, with my students, document local macroalgae species—contributing valuable knowledge to the study of the island’s marine flora.

Team

I am key to this project because I connect science, education, and community action. With experience in conservation and sustainability, I link macroalgae research to real actions that protect Cozumel’s coastal ecosystems

Season totals as displayed on the platform's public accounting — not a statement of amounts paid out. V2 = Venus sales + Venus extras. The original page also broke each season down by fund drive and showed an Available (unclaimed) balance; that level of detail survives only on the preserved snapshots.
