About
We are bringing two old stone houses on Pico Island back to life. One will be a house for artists and researchers. The smaller ruin will become a shared place to create, study, build, play music and hold workshops with the community. And share ideas!
Impact
Sao Mateus will restore Azorean stone heritage, revive neglected land and connect Pico with artists and researchers from around the world. Residencies, workshops and events will create knowledge, skills, friendships and opportunities for island life.
Progress
We bought 1,666 square metres of land with two traditional stone houses on Pico Island. We documented the buildings, defined their future uses and prepared the restoration plan. We have local contacts, a working budget and people ready to take part.
Team
I am a Portuguese cellist, curator and cultural organiser with an international career. Since 2018, I have run weekly experimental music events in Berlin, founded ensembles and delivered many funded projects, tours, recordings and artist residencies.
