About
We're making a mostly submerged 10x40ft greenhouse, based on the "walipini" design. This will allow the temperature of the earth to heat the space in the winter and cool it in the summer. This allows us to grow oranges and avocados in the winter!
Impact
This greenhouse is on an ecovillage campus and will provide food for residents and visitors. It will also serve as an educational template for the region, and will be compared to a lower-tech greenhouse to understand the effects of its features
Progress
We've dug 11ft deep in order to create a passive geothermal heating and cooling setup, created a french drain and cold trench as well as additional drainage, created the cinderblock wall frame with some wall and built the roof frame
Team
Combining an engineering background with a passion for green building and regenerative ag, we have already mapped out and constructed a substantial portion of the design
