About

Kitsunes are custom buzzer systems for quizbowlers and other academic quiz players. They currently retail for as low as half the price of equivalent systems, whilst packing more features into a smaller device.

Impact

One of the biggest barriers to the expansion of the quizbowl scene in both the UK and US is acquiring funding for a buzzer set - these are often $300 or more. My buzzers are significantly cheaper, allowing less wealthy schools to participate.

Progress

I've taught myself CAD and PCB design, and have built my own 3D printers to produce the buzzer shells. Kitsunes are currently active in six countries! I've also published STEP files and source code, so anyone can build their own.

Team

All my knowledge in this field comes from my own experimentation, with help from the hacker community at times. Because of this, I'm building a device which is resistant to accidents and mishaps (and me doing 'stress testing' with a hammer)

Season totals as displayed on the platform's public accounting — not a statement of amounts paid out. V2 = Venus sales + Venus extras. The original page also broke each season down by fund drive and showed an Available (unclaimed) balance; that level of detail survives only on the preserved snapshots.
