About
An automated system that takes a very large water sample (50L), concentrates all organisms into a very small volume, extracts the RNA from all and uses a barcode to check the RNA to see which species are present and how many. Adatable for monitoring.
Impact
Improve toxic algal detection for faster mitigation responses to protect local economies using molecular tools that are faster, more sensitiv, cheaper and which can be used more frequently for better monitoring to improve good environmental status.

Team
I have been working on species detetion using molecular tools for 30 years in 19 EU projects. My 1988 paper developed the first PCR primers to amplify RNA genes, allowing this gene to be used to measure biodiversity and to develop species barcodes.
