About
i'm making biodegradeable purses and textiles out of seaweed. these purses are the opposite of "fast fashion". while they are fully useable, if you bury them in the garden, they fully compost into dirt after 30 days.
Impact
these developments in sustainable fashion and regenerative design will help give biodegradable alternatives to traditional textiles - it's my goal to help catalyze a "slow fashion" movement through material science, storytelling, and bioproduction
Progress
i've made a small prototype of the purse, built a bioprinter, took over my kitchen with a DIY biolab, and am currently engineering bacteria that emit the GFP gene to experiment with "living" / glowing purses

i’m an artist-researcher with many years of mixed media under my belt (some projects generating 20M+ impressions). i’ve been featured on npr, vox media, abc, cnet, the independent, bbc, etc. i also help run a makerspace in rural japan!
