About
I'm turning Circle Limit IV into a crochet pattern—finally showing its true shape. Many of Escher’s works were distorted to fit a sheet of paper, but crochet can reveal their true form. The pattern will be open-source and easy to follow.
Impact
Crochet and coral reefs are among the few ways of modelling hyperbolic geometry, symbols of ecological intelligence. We will raise awareness of these natural forms, while creating a tool that can be used to teach math and geometry around the world.
Progress
A Brazilian crochet artist and I are translating Escher’s math into yarn using code. The pattern could be used by schools, galleries, and museums. It’s powerful to use a feminine craft to honour complex geometry. <3
Team
I've been studying the mathematical possibilities of crochet since 2015; I published an article about it and already crocheted Euclide's Parallel Lines Postulate to show that Euclide's fifth postulate does not apply to hyperbolic geometry.

Season totals as displayed on the platform's public accounting — not a statement of amounts paid out. V2 = Venus sales + Venus extras. The original page also broke each season down by fund drive and showed an Available (unclaimed) balance; that level of detail survives only on the preserved snapshots.
