About
Overset is a long form literary magazine for East Africa. We will publish ambitious writing online and in print, with a new physical issue every quarter and events that bring writers and readers together.
Impact
I have watched great long form nonfiction magazines die off in East Africa. We want to change that by creating a magazine that is sustainably financed and not dependent on donor funding, where writers build careers and readers find great work.
Progress
We have built a podcast where we speak with writers who wrote for the magazines that have died, whose work we will host. We have also done research and have a financing model co-built with writers, understanding what they value and what went wrong.
Team
I have spent a decade building tech products, especially financial ones, for small businesses, leading growth and product at early stage East African startups. I know how to build financially sustainable products here and how to distribute them.

Season totals as displayed on the platform's public accounting — not a statement of amounts paid out. V2 = Venus sales + Venus extras. The original page also broke each season down by fund drive and showed an Available (unclaimed) balance; that level of detail survives only on the preserved snapshots.
