About

Using biodiversity assessments to help endangered species like the West Indian Manatee and the Atlantic Tarpon. These assessments will also help develop education plans to inform local communities on how they can help as well.

Impact

Understanding the organisms that live in coastal lagoons can help conservation efforts regarding the endangered West Indian Manatee as well as the Atlantic Tarpon. The results from this research will be given to local conservation groups.

Progress

Equipment has been acquired. We have a collaboration agreement with the manatee conservation center, a Puerto Rican NGO involved with conservation and education on aquatic species and ecosystems. https://manatipr.org/tour/

Team

I have done eDNA assessments in Colombia and in the Everglades. I am studying under Susanna Caballero who is a key figure in eDNA research with vertebrates. I am working with Antonio Mignucci who works with the Caribbean Manatee Conservation Network.

Season totals as displayed on the platform's public accounting — not a statement of amounts paid out. V2 = Venus sales + Venus extras. The original page also broke each season down by fund drive and showed an Available (unclaimed) balance; that level of detail survives only on the preserved snapshots.
