About

We’re co-creating a living baseline of whale sharks, sharks, and rays in Bahía de Kino, weaving local knowledge, community monitoring, and shared care to guide safe encounters and regenerate our relationship with a changing coastline.

Impact

We co-create community tools to understand new shark and whale shark sightings, strengthening stewardship, responsible tourism, and ecosystem health. This project regenerates cultural ties, supports livelihoods, and helps protect life in the Gulf of

Progress

I’ve documented first whale shark accounts (2022–2024), mapped early patterns, and built trust with fishers and families. With initial guides and interest in training, the community is ready for coordinated monitoring and a shared baseline.

Team

I’m a Sonoran marine biologist trained in community-based research and megafauna ecology. I’ve built trust with fishers and Indigenous families, blending science and local knowledge to co-create tools that honor culture and protect the desert sea.

The original page also broke each season down by fund drive and showed an Available (unclaimed) balance; that level of detail survives only on the preserved snapshots.
