Leverage Fund for Revolutionary Science

Seeking scrappy scientific teams pursuing revolutionary breakthroughs through bold theories, decisive experiments, and new scientific instruments.

The Leverage Fund for Revolutionary Science supports revolutionary research in fields at the cutting edge of human knowledge. We believe the next scientific revolution will emerge not from established labs, but from exceptional individuals and teams working in new and emerging fields. Projects that offer prizes or support to specific revolutionary science efforts are also welcome.

Eligibility

We support researchers advancing revolutionary science. We are looking for projects that open or advance new fields of inquiry, especially ones led by stellar unknown researchers with theories or that develop and use new scientific instrumentation, or that solve well-defined problems in emerging fields.
To qualify for this fund, projects must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Revolutionary: The project should be revolutionary, either by challenging an existing paradigm or trying to establish a new one. We do not fund incremental research in established fields.
- Directed: The project should be aiming to answer an important question, test an articulated theory, or gather lots of data in a new domain. We do not fund aimless exploration, unless the data is really new.
- Efficient: The project should be both low-cost and mindful of costs. We are not funding large, wasteful projects.
- High Potential & New: The project should present something new, typically research done (a) by awesome unknown researchers, (b) using new scientific instrumentation, or (c) a surprising new domain where lots of data can be gathered cheaply.
Things we like: theory + experiment, interdisciplinary thinking, clear reasoning, knowledge of the existing scientific landscape, an understanding of bottlenecks in the field.
We also fund:
- Infrastructure: Infrastructure or prize contests that encourage or support specific revolutionary science projects. We do not fund projects that support revolutionary science "in general", that's what we do ;).
